Atelier A.KONOMI

An Independent Tapestry Workshop in Aubusson

Tapestry has long been part of Europe’s decorative arts. Aubusson is especially known for its production, with a history going back to the 15th century.

Recognized as a unique, high-quality craft, Aubusson tapestry was added to UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage list in 2009 and has held a Protected Geographical Indication since 2018.

For centuries, tapestries decorated castles and cathedrals. Today, Atelier A.KONOMI makes custom pieces designed to fit beautifully into modern or traditional interiors.
Atelier A.KONOMI weaves tapestries for the 21st century.

Original creation

At Atelier A.KONOMI, Aiko Konomi designs and crafts original pieces signed with her own name.

Using well-known Japanese and French motifs, she captures little scenes of everyday life in tapestry.

In a small-format series, the rabbit from Japan’s earliest picture scrolls (Chōjū-giga) meets the rabbit from the medieval tapestry The Lady and the Unicorn amid mille-fleurs, and the two embark on various shared moments.

This series can be read as the story of a person who lives within both Japanese and French cultures.
